ACTIVITY BACKGROUND
The Health Workforce Management (HWM) Activity is a five year task order funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with the goal of supporting the establishment of a cost-effective, well-trained, and motivated health workforce to address the shortage of skilled healthcare workers, particularly those in rural and remote areas in Ebonyi, Sokoto, Bauchi and Kebbi States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

HWM wishes to engage a local research organization with the ability to conduct research to identify evidence on HRH availability, attrition and retention and support HRH monitoring, evaluation and learning in HWM focus states.

ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED:
Improve generation of evidence on critical HRH Issues through research and evaluation by:
• Conducting literature reviews on global and local evidence on health worker retention research across Nigeria and within the targeted States (Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Sokoto and FCT).
• Conduct research on HRH retention in the priority states (Kebbi and Sokoto) to better understand factors affecting health workforce recruitment and retention in remote and rural areas of the priority states.
• Develop a research summary report and state specific policy briefs.
• Support HRH monitoring, evaluation and learning in the HWM focus states (Ebony, Sokoto, Bauchi States).

Project Overview
PSI’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Department supports programs in 37 countries (and counting) to deliver high-quality family planning and safe abortion services to women and girls. Among the department’s current projects is Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC)—a five-year intervention that is funded by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and jointly implemented by PSI and the Society for Family Health (SFH) – Nigeria. DISC aims to catalyze women’s self-injection of DMPA-SC contraception in Nigeria and Uganda, and more broadly to spark a self-care movement across healthcare systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.
