Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking the service of organisations with presence in the North West Region of Nigeria (Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States) for data collection on the impact of the conflicts on Women and Children. Search is primarily interested in organisations with past quantitative and qualitative data collection experience and presence in the target states. The Organization’s profile should induce details of previous data collection experience with a detailed description of the organization(s) and specific tasks worked on. Interested organisations should also include language skills and proficiency levels of local Nigerian languages in their resume and profile.

About Search for Common Ground
Search for Common Ground (Search) will be conducting an in-depth analysis of the impact of conflict on Women and Children in northwest Nigeria. The proposed analysis will provide strategic guidance and direction to UNICEF on the impact of the growing violence and recommended strategies to mitigate the effects. The analysis will highlight the impact of the rise in violence on the socio-economic situation of rural and urban populations, particularly women and children, of northwest Nigeria (Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States), Search’s analysis will highlight the impact of the conflict on livelihoods, coping mechanisms, access to basic services and physical security of women and children in the target states. Search will also develop a framework that will serve as a guide for mainstreaming conflict sensitivity in UNICEF’s programming in northwest Nigeria.

About the Project
Search for Common Ground (Search) with funding from UNICEF is implementing a 2month analysis on the impact of conflict on women and children in North-West Nigeria. Search will be carrying out an in-depth examination of the impact of conflict on women and children in the three most conflict-affected states of Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto in northwest Nigeria. Search will deploy a combination of extensive desk review and exploratory research conducted using quantitative and qualitative methodology. This approach will adopt a review of secondary data covering the context before and after the rise in violence in Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto Stales. Search will also deploy direct assessment to obtain primary data using mixed methodology (qualitative and quantitative methods) through structured questionnaires and surveys.

BACKGROUND
NORWEGIAN CHURCH AID (NCA) is an ecumenical diaconal organisation for global justice which works to help the poorest and those in need, regardless of their creed, race, political or religious affiliation. NCA provides emergency assistance in disasters, work for long-term development in local communities and address the root causes of poverty, advocate for just decisions by public authorities, business and religious leaders.

NCA has been in Nigeria since 2017, delivering humanitarian assistance in conflict-affected areas. NCA works closely with its national partner organisations, an approach that fulfils its mandate to strengthen civil society.

SCOPE OF THE CONSULTANCY:
The overall objective of the consultancy is split into two parts, 1st Part to design the faecal sludge management (FSM) plant and the 2nd part the construction and commissioning of the FSM plant in Maidiguri. The primary focus is to process sludge generated from IDP households with the possibility to scale up to include host communities. An innovative approach of briquetting is proposed to create a sustainable, community-based faecal sludge chain management services that will contribute to improved public and environmental health, livelihood and living conditions of crisis-affected populations in NE Nigeria and specifically in Maidiguri. To ensure sustainability of the project, recognition of the briquette site production by the federal technical and administrative authorities and the acceptance by the communities need to be addressed as well as the definition of texts governing the briquettes production (e.g., a federal decree that institutes the management and the treatment of faecal sludge through an organization of actors emptying and authorizing the production of briquettes on the territory).

Pact has presence in 29 countries around the world working in Health, Livelihoods, Conflict Resolution, Governance, and Access to Markets, Capacity Development and Natural Resource Management.

In Nigeria (where it is registered as Pact West Africa), Pact has worked to build the organizational capacity of institutions; including civil society and community based organizations to improve maternal, newborn and child health; address the needs of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), mitigate the spread of people living with HIV/AIDS, and artisanal miners in over 20 states across all the six geo political zones. Pact has also worked with more than 110 local organizations, community groups, and government agencies who now demonstrate measurable improved performance following Pact’s capacity development approach.

Pact is currently working on a USAID funded project called ACHIEVE project where we provide Technical Assistances to the 4 ICHSAA Partners in the areas of curriculum development, Policy guidelines and reviews and capacity development. We are also a part of a consortium working on a a USAID funded project MOMENTUM Country Governance and Leadership Project. We worked previously with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in Gombe state in North East Nigeria to support the strengthening of government health systems, ELAPC Project in Taraba State Engaging Local Actors for Promoting Peaceful Coexistence between Herders and Famers, also as a partner on the United State Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Coordinating Comprehensive Care for Children Project, Pact West Africa trained over 32,000 state and local health officials, and provided technical support to LGAs to improve budgeting and advocacy abilities, as well as create links between government agencies and civil society organizations and the private sector, Pact West Africa helps communities gain lasting benefits from natural resources by using them more sustainably. We have a Direct Aid Program (DAP) funded by the Australian Embassy, Pact West Africa introduced safer methods for artisanal surface miners by increasing awareness of mercury and related health concerns in the mining population and providing solutions for the mining community to alleviate mercury poisoning in Zamfara State.
