PROJECT BACKGROUND
The proposed Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project seeks to improve adolescent girls’ access to secondary education. The project aims to support the Government through a holistic and multisectoral approach to unlock binding demand- and supply-side constraints to girls’ empowerment through education, which are driving low human capital indicators, particularly in northern Nigeria. This project will use secondary school as a platform to empower girls through education, life skills, health education (e.g. nutrition, reproductive health) GBV awareness and prevention, negotiations skills, agency and digital literacy skills.

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has received USD700 million financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the Nigeria Sustainable Urban, Rural Water Supply Sanitation & Hygiene (SURWASH) programme and intends to apply part of the proceeds for the consultancy services to develop a social and behavior change communication (SBCC) National-Level strategy to support sanitation in selected states in Nigeria. The NG-SURWASH is a six-year programme consisting of a US$640 million program for results (PforR) with a US$60 million investment project financing (IPF) component. It introduces a results-based approach with the potential to propel Nigeria’s effort to ensure that all its people have access to sustainable and safely managed WASH services. It introduces an innovative approach to sector programming that leverages incentives to simultaneously deliver infrastructure that works, policies that govern, and an institution that sustains. The technical assistance (TA) provided under the IPF component will address critical institutional development and capacity gaps within implementing agencies.
